In April-May 2011, Antony Jinman, Duncan Eadie and myself became the first British team to traverse the Penny Ice Cap on Baffin Island, Arctic Canada. The project covered over 250km over 18 days, ascending to 2000m whilst living in temperatures down to -25C and winds of up to 70km/h.

The Polar Bear Story:During our Spring 2011 crossing of Baffin Island we came across a family of polar bears whilst traveling to our start position by snow mobile. Inadvertently one of the cubs became separated from his mother.
A -25C Wash: The last day of the expedition had arrived. I couldn’t believe it had come. Two weeks previously, with all the uncertainties and potential dangers ahead, I would have traded places with this day in a blink of an eye – now I would gladly have gone back two weeks. But just when we started to relax we walked into a blizzard and thin ice.
