This first video is from our Spring crossing of the Penny Ice Cap, Baffin Island. This is the second attempt we made of this crossing having failed the first time due to an exceedingly cold winter.
Making camp on an ice cap is a mix of science and art. It is important to ‘get it right’ and to ‘do it quickly’. This short instructional video shows the procedure of packing up camp.
In direct comparison of the videos above, the video below is a shorter film of a summer expedition in 2010 to the same region. There is a direct overlap in the terrain crossed in the two expeditions and it is incredible to see the difference in the terrain over the space of just a few short months. The snow is all but gone and life has returned to the valleys.
